JapanBuySell ("we", "us") operates the JapanBuySell website and mobile app (the "Service"), a marketplace for vehicles, parts and other goods in Japan. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
Information you provide
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number, and a WhatsApp number and/or LINE ID. Business accounts also provide a business name.
- Location for your profile and listings: the prefecture and (optionally) city you select.
- Listings: titles, descriptions, prices, specifications, and photos you upload.
- Messages: the content of chats with other users, including any photos you attach and any location you choose to share.
- Support: information you send us when you contact us.
Location data
The app accesses your device's precise location only when you tap "Share location" in a chat, so you can send your current position to a buyer or seller — for example, to agree on a meetup point or a vehicle pickup spot. We do not track your location in the background, and we do not collect location unless you actively choose to share it. A shared location is delivered to the other participant in that conversation.
Photos
With your permission, the app accesses your photo library so you can attach photos to a listing or to a chat message. We only access the photos you select.
Information collected automatically
- Device & log data: IP address, device type, and basic log information.
- Push token: a device token so we can send notifications about messages and offers.
- In-app activity: limited events such as sending a quick reply, sharing or opening a shared location, and using in-chat translation, so we can understand which features are used and improve the Service.
How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and listings.
- To connect buyers and sellers and enable messaging, offers and location sharing.
- To send notifications you have opted into.
- To keep the marketplace safe, prevent abuse, and respond to reports.
- To analyse feature usage and improve the Service.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share information as follows:
- Other users: your listing details, display name, and the contact methods and any location you choose to share are visible to users you interact with.
- Sign-in providers: if you sign in with Apple or Google, those providers process your authentication.
- Translation: when you tap "Translate" on a message, that message text is sent to Google's translation service to return a translation.
- Payments: optional Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
- Notifications: push notifications are delivered via Apple (APNs) and Google (FCM) and the Expo push service.
- Maps: shared-location previews use OpenStreetMap map tiles.
- Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Your rights and choices
- You can review and update your profile information in the app or website.
- You can control location and photo access in your device settings.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account and personal data by contacting us.
Children
The Service is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above.
